If your firearm lacks a fully supported barrel, it can be dangerous to fire +p ammunition, plus you run a higher risk of having a kB situation.

If you keep it locked back and a full magazine at the ready, it can be loaded in 2 seconds. The reason for not keeping a loaded magazine in a glock is because it has a really sensitive trigger. And no safety button. - G

Another thing I didn't like about my 17 was the lack of a fully supported chamber/ barrel assembly

Then why not buy a glock in 45ACP or 45GAP? Really, if you don't like 9mm, there's still pleny of GLOCK to choose from.I would pick the simplicity and reliabillity of a GLOCK over any 1911 based gun for self defense. But hey, it's just my opinion.
