It is not such a hard thing to do. Just make sure you are prepared for it if you do. Chris died in the wild because he thought he could handle whatever was thrown at him, but as it turned out, he could not. So do this, it's not so difficult as it seems ;) You don't have to start from going to Alaska, but find some nice unspoilt place, and just stay there for couple days.
